How to Start a Business When You Don’t Have Time

One of the biggest reasons people put off starting an online business? They feel like they just don’t have the time.
Life is busy—between work, family, and personal responsibilities, adding one more thing to your plate can feel impossible.
But here’s the truth: you do have time.
I should know, I was exhausted, chronically ill and trying to manage PTSD all while working full time. Now, the life of my dreams is unfolding more and more each day! It’s just about shifting your mindset and making the most of the time you already have. It didn’t happen over night, but if you want something – you’ll find a way to make it happen.
Step 1: Shift Your Mindset
Before we even talk strategy, you need to change the way you think about time. Instead of telling yourself I don’t have time for this, start asking:
✨ How can I make this work?
Successful entrepreneurs don’t have more hours in the day than you do—they just use their time differently.
How ? They make a decsion. They DECIDE. I am the person who succeeds and then act from that identity.
Leave behind the identity of someone who is trying, struggling, side-hussling. No. You are a business owner now. Business owners don’t try – they do. They don’t struggle – they strategize.
And starting a business doesn’t mean a complete life overhaul overnight. It’s about taking small, intentional steps that add up over time. The key to building momentum online? Consistency, not perfection.
Step 2: Let Go of Overwhelm
When most people think about starting a business, their brain jumps straight into overwhelm mode:
✔ Build a website
✔ Create social media accounts
✔ Start an email list
✔ Develop a digital marketing strategy
✔ Sell products or services
✔ Learn SEO
✔ Master social media marketing
That’s… a lot. But guess what?
You don’t have to do everything at once.
Instead, focus on one action that will move the needle the most. Maybe it’s:
📌 Outlining your first digital product
📌 Setting up a simple sales page
📌 Posting valuable content to build an audience
Whatever it is—simplify and focus.
Step 3: Find Your Hidden Time
At this point, you might be thinking, I literally have no time. That’s the problem!
But let’s take a step back and look at your schedule objectively.
Check Your Screen Time
Pull up your phone’s screen time report. How many hours did you spend scrolling social media? If you’re like most people, that’s at least 1–2 hours a day.
That’s time you could be spending building your business instead of consuming other people’s content.
Audit Your Entertainment Time
How many Netflix episodes did you watch last week? Cutting back by just one episode a day could free up 30–60 minutes for your business.
For 99% of people, the time is already there—it’s just being used on autopilot.
Step 4: Schedule Your Business Time
Now that you’ve found your hidden time, schedule it. Treat this time like a non-negotiable appointment with yourself. Your time is valuable if you make it valuable. Spend your time building instead of consuming and your life will drastically change. – Look out ! Who is SHE ?!
If you found just 30 minutes a day, that’s:
➡️ 3.5 hours per week
➡️ 14 hours per month
➡️ 168 hours per year
168 hours of focused work on your business adds up fast. Imagine what kind of life you could create with that kind of time….
Step 5: Let Go of Desperation
Building a successful online business isn’t about frantic, scattered effort. It’s about steady, focused action.
Let go of the desperate energy. Trust the process.
Ask yourself: what is the next right action ? What will move the needle the most towards my goal. Do that.
Step 6: Focus on One Thing at a Time
Every time you sit down to work on your business, identify your #1 priority task.
🚫 No multitasking.
🚫 No bouncing between ideas.
🚫 No getting lost in busywork.
Just one clear, focused action that moves you forward. Then repeat & reap the rewards.
Step 7: Repeat
This is how you build a business. This is how you lay the foundation for long-term income and flexibility. This is how you build momentum and open doors beyond the 9–5.
One step. One decision. One moment at a time.
You got this. 💪🏼
